Stacey Sher Inks First-Look TV Deal With MGM Television

What happened
Veteran producer Stacey Sher has signed a multi-year first-look deal for television with MGM Television, both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. Under the pact, projects developed by Sher's production banner will be offered to MGM Television first before being shopped elsewhere.
Why this signing matters
- Sher's catalog speaks for itself. Two-time Oscar nominee; producer or executive producer on Pulp Fiction, Erin Brockovich, Get Shorty, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Out of Sight — among others. As a TV deal, she brings high-end feature sensibilities to long-form.
- MGM TV's rebuild continues. Under Amazon ownership, MGM Television has been steadily attracting prestige producers as it pushes for premium drama and limited series volume.
- First-look, not exclusive. This is the standard high-end format: it gives MGM right of first refusal but lets Sher continue to develop independently elsewhere when MGM passes.
What we know about projects
Neither Variety nor THR named specific titles attached to the deal. Industry insiders expect Sher's first MGM TV project to be a prestige limited series, consistent with her recent television work.
What to watch
- The first project announcement under the deal — usually within 6–9 months of the signing.
- Whether MGM Television lands additional first-look deals with similarly prestige-tier feature producers, signalling a strategic stack.
- How Amazon Prime Video, MGM's parent's primary distribution platform, integrates Sher's projects in its 2027 lineup.
